What is Loy Krathong?
Loy Krathong is held on the night of the full moon in the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar, usually in November. A krathong is a small float made from a slice of banana trunk, decorated with banana leaves, flowers, a candle and incense. People float their krathong on the water to thank the water goddess, Phra Mae Khongkha, to let go of bad luck and to make a wish. The festival is often said to date back to the Sukhothai kingdom.
