Moving to Phuket with Young Children?
We did it. Then we built a school. Here's what we learned.

We Were in Your Shoes
In 2020, we moved to Phuket with our daughters. We looked at every school on the island. Some were too rigid, some too expensive, and none of them felt like the childhood we wanted for our children. So we built one ourselves.
Bamboo Valley started with our own family and a handful of others who shared the same vision: children learning outdoors, surrounded by nature, free to explore at their own pace. Four years later, we have families from over 15 countries — and a green campus under palm trees that still takes our breath away.

Why Phuket for Families?
Phuket is not just a holiday island. For families willing to look beyond the tourist strips, it offers a rare combination of safety, affordability, nature, and international community.
Safe & Welcoming
Thailand consistently ranks as one of the safest countries in Southeast Asia for families. Phuket has excellent hospitals, a strong expat community, and locals who genuinely love children.
Affordable Quality of Life
A family of four can live comfortably on $2,500–4,000/month including rent. International school fees range from $3,000–20,000/year — a fraction of Dubai, Singapore, or Hong Kong.
Beach & Mountain Lifestyle
Weekend beach trips, jungle hikes, island-hopping, night markets. Children grow up outdoors here, not in shopping malls. The lifestyle itself becomes education.
Nature Everywhere
Tropical forests, mangroves, coral reefs, and wildlife. Children who grow up in Phuket develop a deep connection with the natural world that stays with them for life.
International Community
A large, active expat community with parent groups, sports clubs, and cultural events. You will find your people faster than you expect.
Year-Round Warmth
No winter coats, no heating bills. Tropical weather means children can be outdoors every single day. Even the rainy season brings warm showers, not cold grey days.
Our Campus
A 3.5-rai palm plantation in Cherngtalay with lush green lawns, nearly 100 palm trees, bamboo play structures, animal areas, and wooden classrooms with glass walls that open onto the garden.

What a Day Looks Like
Most learning at Bamboo Valley happens outdoors — on the grass, under the trees, in the garden. Here is what your children will experience.

Schools in Phuket — Finding the Right Fit
Phuket has about 15 international schools, mostly following British or IB curricula. Fees range from around $3,000/year at smaller schools to over $20,000 at premium institutions like UWC Thailand and BISP. Most are excellent — it depends on what matters most to your family.
We are different. Bamboo Valley is a small, Waldorf-inspired nature school for ages 2–9. We are not trying to be an international school in the traditional sense. We are a community of families who believe young children learn best outdoors, through play, creativity, and connection with nature.

Common Questions
Is there a minimum enrollment period?
No. You can enroll for as little as one week. Many traveling families stay for 2–4 weeks, while relocating families often start with a month to see how their children settle before committing to a full term.
What curriculum do you follow?
We follow a Waldorf-inspired approach enhanced with targeted learning techniques. This means storytelling, watercolor painting, handwork, music, and nature exploration form the core — combined with phonics, numeracy, and reading for older children. No screens, no worksheets, no homework.
What language is used?
English is the primary language of instruction. We have children from over 15 countries, so the classroom is naturally multilingual. Children who arrive speaking no English typically become conversational within weeks through immersion.
What ages do you accept?
We serve children ages 2 to 9, across nursery (ages 2–4), kindergarten (ages 3–6), and primary (ages 6–9) programs.
How much does it cost?
We offer competitive fees with flexible options. Weekly enrollment starts from a daily rate, while term enrollment offers the best value. Contact us for current pricing — it varies by age group and duration.
What about visas?
Most families arrive on a tourist visa (60 days, extendable to 90). For longer stays, education visas and the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa are options. We can point you to trusted local visa agents who help families regularly.
